Rating: 5 stars
Goodreads Book Description:
Just listen, Adam says with a voice that sounds like
shrapnel.
I open my eyes wide now.
I sit up as much as I can.
And I listen.
Stay, he says.
Choices. Seventeen-year-old Mia is faced with some
tough ones: Stay true to her first love—music—even if it means losing her
boyfriend and leaving her family and friends behind?
Then one February morning Mia goes for a drive with
her family, and in an instant, everything changes. Suddenly, all the choices
are gone, except one. And it's the only one that matters.
If I Stay is a heartachingly beautiful book about the
power of love, the true meaning of family, and the choices we all make.
IMDB Movie Summary:
Mia Hall, a talented young
cellist, thought the most difficult decision she would ever have to make would
be whether to pursue her musical dreams at prestigious Juilliard or follow her
heart to be with the love of her life, Adam, a rock
singer/guitarist. However, a car wreck changes everything in an instant, and
now Mia's life hangs in the balance. Suspended between life and death, Mia
faces a choice that will decide her future.
My Review:
I swear Gayle
Forman was just making me use up multiple boxes of tissues! The book was
stunning, much like the film as both involved jumping back and forth to the
accident and also taking readers back in time of Mia’s memories. The characters
in both the movie and book were so true to themselves; the development was
beautiful to watch.
I have watched
the movie multiple times now and I will most definitely be re-reading the book
soon.
